1st Durbanville celebrated their 50th Birthday at the Durbanville Presbyterian Church. A rather wet Sunday 14 August saw present and past members and non-members Durbanville gather at the Presbyterian Church Hall for a special lunch and slide show. This was followed by a Scouts Own Church Service attended by many as well as dignitaries. It was pleasure meeting some of the “old folks” again. One of the guests of honour was Michael Crooke, the very fist Queen Scout of 1st Durbanville The service went off extremely well, led by Rev. Eddie Germiquet, with participation by Cubs, Scouts and Scouters alike. The cubs and scouts renewed their promises lead by Christine De Wit and Buzz Macey. Tea and much cake then followed, with mingling and stories in the church hall. A memorable day! Since 1963 1st Durbanville has awarded the Springbok Scout Award to 36 hardworking scouts. This is an excellent achievement. We have also undertaken numerous community service projects during the 50 years, often lead by our Springbok Scouts. |
