Adult Training and Development

As in most National Scout Organisations, SCOUTS South Africa operates the Wood Badge Training Programme as a system for the training and development of all its Adult Leaders. It comprises Essentials, Adventure, Management, and Leadership curriculums which are proficiency based and relate to the specific functions of each type of Leader. Additional training programmes enhance the acquisition of further skills and knowledge.

South Africa’s Wood Badge Training Programme conforms to the requirements of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM).

Learners

We provide our volunteers with the tools and tips to help you feel trained, supported and happy in your role. Volunteers are the essence of Scouting and we want you to get every bit as much out of it as you put in.

We know that Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of our volunteers. To support Scout volunteers, you are required to complete a training programme made up of mandatory, role specific and ongoing learning.

The training programme builds on your existing skills and knowledge and some elements count towards externally-recognised awards.

Find out about the training required for your role, building on your existing skills and knowledge. Ask your Scout Group Leader (SGL) / District Commissioner (DC) or Regional Team Coordinator: Adult Leader Training (RTC:ALT) about the training needed to improve your role in Scouting.

Trainers

Trainers are key to the volunteer training scheme at SCOUTS South Africa. If you’ve decided to help others to complete their training then we have the resources and tips to support you.

There are a number of online resources available to help you run training sessions, including ice-breakers, reflections, review tools, presentation templates and downloadable publications. These resources are for trainers wanting to train and support others. Please note you will need to speak to your RTC: ALT in order to gain access to this training site.

Training Courses

Regional training courses are provided by SCOUTS South Africa’s experienced Training Team.
