Every year the National Scout Office staff joins the Mandela day initiative by supporting a local organisation in need. On Monday 18 July, the team rolled up their sleeves and spent 67 minutes making sandwiches for the Ladles of Love sandwich drive.
“It was a nice and fun project to support”, says Western Cape Administrator Eleanor Brown. “Every year we try to support different projects and it makes me feel good that as a team we can contribute to the less fortunate”, adds National Office Administrator Samantha Rushin.
“As individuals we might not always be able to engage in big projects that make huge impacts. But we should all strive to do something small, something meaningful, and something where the combined impact of the many small efforts can really help others. We should not only do this one day a year but should incorporate service as part of our Scouting lifestyle”, continues SCOUTS South Africa CEO Mariska de Beer. “We chose Ladles of Love as our initiative to support this year because our small efforts would be combined with those of many others to create a bigger impact for the community we work in. When many people come together with sandwiches and fruits, we can not only feed a few people, but a whole community”, concludes Mariska.
