It is fun and it puts the OUT into ScOUTing!! By participating in the City Nature Challenge, your child and you will be able to have fun outdoors, snap loads pf photos with your phones, learn more about your local nature, and put Scouting on the map! Over and above all of that, you will also be making your city a better place – for you and other species!
Also, you can decide whether to spend 10 minutes or 2 hours exploring and taking photos .We live in one of the most biodiverse regions on earth and there is nature all around us! Knowing what species are in our city and where they are helps us study and protect them. The ONLY way to do that is if – scientists, environmentalists, community members, AND Scouting Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, Rovers, Scouters, Scouting parents– work together to find and document the nature in our area.
Joining these campaigns as the Scout Movement also helps us show people worldwide of our importance and the difference that Scouts make in the world. You will also be able to show others your participated by wearing your CNC event badge on your uniform.
Participating Scouts in the Western Cape Region will earn points for the Tonkin Trophy for their Group. The Western Cape Scout Region has been part of the City Nature Challenge for a number of years and have a history in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 of contributing a significant amount of data towards the challenge.
