Written by Kian de la Buscagne, Patrol Leader Kudu Patrol, 14th DELP.

Over the weekend of the 17th – 19th February 2023, Scouts from the Tshwane North East District came together to celebrate and commemorate the birthday of the founder of the World Scout Movement, Lord Robert Baden-Powell or BP for short. The theme of the weekend was Sherlock Holmes.

Scouts and Scouters from nine different Groups around Tshwane, camped at Willem Prinsloo Ditsong Museum grounds, just outside Rayton. Using the great expanse of the museum’s property, the Scouts played Adventure games and partook in activities. There were a wide range of bases where new skills like tracking, snake identification, wall climbing, canoeing and observation skills were learnt. All the learning experiences learnt over the weekend was towards the Scouts earning a badge as well as creating or renewing friendships with other Scouts.

On the Sunday morning we were joined by the Meerkats and the Cubs with their Scouters and parents. Kicking off with the opening ceremony to enjoy games, fun learning activities until it was time for our Sunday service.

The ceremonial progression with our colour flag parade was done with the sound of traditional bag pipes, which led the Groups to the hall, where the successions of the past year were handed out.
