National Challenge 2026

waterSCOUTS South Africa has adopted “Be Water Safe” as the National Challenge for 2026, highlighting water safety as a critical life skill for young people. With approximately 1,484 drownings reported annually in South Africa (by the NSRI), promoting awareness and safe behaviour around water is more important than ever.

This National Challenge supports the global Scouts for SDGs initiative, contributing to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by building lifelong water safety skills and preparing Scouting members to respond safely to water-related emergencies.

We invite our Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, Rovers and volunteers to learn, explore, and act responsibly around all types of water—from rivers and dams to pools and the sea—empowering them to protect themselves and others and help create safer communities.
