What is Pow Wow?

Pow Wow is a Scouting tradition with a long history in South Africa. The first South African Cub Pow Wow ( then known as Cub Palaver) was held in Cape Town at the end of the 1937/38. From the very beginning its aim was to bring Pack Scouters together to exchange ideas, enjoy outings, learn new skills and spend time with fellow Scouters. Over the years, Pow Wow developed into a biennial national gathering, travelling to different parts of the country and creating opportunities for Pack Scouters to learn, grow and share their passion with young people through the Cub programme.

In true Cubbing fashion there has always been plenty of imagination behind the event. Past Pow Wow themes have included “Our Green Heritage”, “Constructive Cubbing”, “Our Youth is our Wealth”, “Pow-Wow in the Jungle”, “Carnival of Friends”, “Mystery Safari”, “The Star in You” and “Anchors Aweigh”. Each theme reflected both the spirit of the times and the places hosting the event.

While the themes and venues change, the heart of Pow Wow remains the same: bringing Pack Scouters together. From starting in Cape Town more than 85 years ago, Pow Wow has travelled across South Africa and continued to evolve. Pow Wow 2027, hosted by the Eastern Cape South Region, adds another exciting chapter to that story.

Why attend Pow Wow 2027?

Whether you’re an experienced Pack Scouter or looking to refresh your Scouting toolkit, Pow Wow 2027 is an opportunity to recharge, reconnect and return to your Pack inspired and ready for adventure.

Pow Wow offers an opportunity to explore ways to make the Cub programme even more engaging and exciting. You can expect practical skills, creative programme ideas, hands-on workshops, useful resources and plenty of opportunities to share experiences and learn how others manage situations you might encounter too.

But Pow Wow is about much more than learning. At its heart is a community of passionate volunteers who share a love for the Cub programme and a commitment to helping young people grow through Scouting. It is about the people you meet, the stories you share, the friendships you build and the laughter along the way.
