A word of thought and gratitude

Message from Chief Scout Brendon Hausberger

As we all settle in after our first day of lock down, and hopefully are all a bit calmer now that the stress, worries and concerns around closing businesses, setting up work spaces from home and ensuring that you and your family are prepared are done, let’s all take a deep breath.

Let’s pay some credit to those who don’t have the luxury of being able to be at home or work from home. People like doctors, police, fire and emergency staff, shop assistants, supply and logistics personnel keeping stores supplied, security personnel, farmers, internet providers and other infrastructure workers.  All of these good folks are leaving their families and homes to make sure that as far as safely possible, life carries on and our essential supplies are available when we need them.

When you feel trapped in your home, bored or frustrated that you can’t walk the dog or go for a jog, think of the vast number of our members and countrymen who are living with multiple family members in small – often one bedroomed -structures with often no running water to support the basic hygiene this situation requires. Also spare a thought for those who don’t have the resources to store three weeks of food supplies, if any, and who don’t have transport of their own to get more.

This is a temporary situation, but one lesson we should all take away from it is the insight into the long standing challenges of disparity in our country and the urgency to address them.

Keep safe and look out for each other.

Your Chief Scout,
Brendon Hausberger
