Western Cape Scouting COVID-19 restrictions in effect

Dear Scout members,

You most likely have heard about the strong resurgence in COVID-19 cases being reported across Western Cape and the Garden Route. Following the appeal of the Western Cape Provincial Health authorities to curtail gatherings where possible, the Western Cape Regional Scout Management Team has – with immediate effect – suspended all courses, Regional / District events and competitions until 2021, when they are safe to be run.

All Western Cape Group activities for Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, Rovers or parent meetings should end no later than Friday 11 December 2020. In the interim, no large gathering of persons should be held. Only unit meetings operating in small groups and outdoors. Adherence to all  the COVID-19 protocols, regular sanitising and hand washing, wearing of masks must be strongly reinforced. Monitoring of the 3 D’s by all leaders must be a priority (Dosage, Distance and Dispersal).

Small group activities may continue for 4-8 people max until further notice. Western Cape Regional facilities will remain open under current rules. Numbers will be curtailed.

We thank the WC Regional Commissioner Paddy Milner and his team for taking early action to curtail the spread of COVID-19. We understand that this decision was not an easy one to make, but appreciate that you prioritised the wellbeing of our Scouting members and their families. As a collective we can make a difference and save lives. If you are a Scouting member in the WC and have any queries please feel free to contact Paddy or a Regional Management team member for further clarity or guidance.

Scouting activities in all other Regions will continue as per Level 1 Lockdown regulations until otherwise communicated.

Stay Safe, Wash Hands, Keep Your Distance.

Yours in Scouting,

Brendon Hausberger
Chief Scout
