Love takes centre stage at District campfire

Written by Caroline Boshoff, SSA Youth Influencer Eastern Cape

Scouting develops camaraderie and friendship, and brings us all together as a Scout family. Recently, at their District family campfire, Assistant Troop Scouter and Rover Squire Phillip Sutherland (27) proposed to 1st Walmer Rover Secretary and ATS Tamlyn Delponte.
To the delight of the children, Rovers Scouting volunteers, and family members present she said Yes!
SSA Youth Influencer Caroline Boshoff was there and spoke to the happy couple about their special moment: :”I was very nervous but I knew how important the campfire and Scouting are to her. She says it’s the one place that she feels free”, says Philip with a smile. “Philip had been acting a bit weird in the week prior to the proposal asking me to have my nails done,” laughs Tamlyn. “I didn’t think he would ask me at the campfire. It was a super special campfire as it was a lot of my friends and family’s first campfire ever. When Philip started talking about the proposal all I heard was a lot of gasping and giggling from my Scouts, It’s a bit of a blur, but I heard a distinct “say yes, say yes”! It was very special”, adds Tamlyn.
Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish them a very blessed and happy life together!
