DSD Scouts step up for a clean and healthy community

Contributing to safer and cleaner shared spaces in our communities is a calling that DSD Troop Scouter Nomfundo Msimang and the Scouts of the DSD Dlala Nje Scout Group in Alexandra in Johannesburg took to heart over the past weekend. Together with members of the community and government officials the 20 Scouts and Scouters joined the Guardian Angels and Marine Trust in a park clean-up.

“We wanted to help our community create safe and clean spaces for both people and animals living in Alexandra,” explains Nomfundo. “We walked for 10 kilometers while picking up papers, bottles, plastic and more. We ended the walk at the park where the the Minister of Defense thanks us all for the hard work that had been done.

This project taught our Scouts the importance of keeping our community and environment clean and therefore healthy. Working on this project to help those in need has been incredibly fulfilling and has warmed my heart and I am sure also the hearts of our Scouts. It’s a reminder of the impact we can have when we come together to support others.”
