Scouting is about more than learning skills and earning badges. It is about developing values that guide how we live, lead and serve. We learn the importance of helping others, showing respect, caring for our communities and taking responsibility for making the world a better place. But values only become meaningful when we put them into action.
That is why initiatives like Mandela Day are such an important opportunity for us as Scouts to make our values visible in our communities.
Through our “Putting Values into Action” Mandela Day campaign, we invite SCOUTS SA members across the country to identify a need in their community and take action during the month of July.
Whether your Group is planning a community clean-up, supporting a local organisation, helping vulnerable community members or creating Jars of Hope, every project is an opportunity to live the values we promise to uphold.
You do not need a large project to make a difference. Every act of service matters. This Mandela Day, let’s show what happens when young people choose action over words and service over self-interest.
Email or WhatsApp us your photos and a short paragraph with your Scout Group name, what you did and why. You can email [email protected] or WhatsApp 068 069 9463.
