Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, Rovers, and volunteers across South Africa are doing things that deserve to be seen and celebrated. From community service and environmental projects to camps, skills development, youth leadership and everyday Scouting adventures.
Do you enjoy writing, photography, video, graphic design or telling stories? SCOUTS South Africa is looking for volunteers from within our SA Scouting Regions to join our newly relaunched National Content Creator Team!
The team was previously known as the Youth Influencer Team, but we are changing the name to better reflect what the volunteers actually do. The term “influencer” created some misconceptions about the role, while Content Creator more accurately describes the skills and contribution we are looking for.
The National Content Creator Team will help SCOUTS South Africa share the stories, achievements and impact of Scouting across the country. All positions are voluntary, with one-year appointments renewable for two additional years.
What will Content Creators do?
There are several ways to get involved, depending on your skills and interests:
Impact story creators
Our impact stories will remain an important part of the team. Creators will identify and develop stories from within Scout Groups and Districts within their respective Scout Regions that showcase how Scouting is making a difference in the lives of young people, volunteers and communities.
Deliverables include two pieces of content per month. Content may include:
- Written blog articles
- Photo and impact quote
- Shortform videos
- Stories linked to national campaigns, themes and important days
- Video series producers
We are also expanding into more video storytelling, with Content Creators helping to produce various short video series for the SCOUTS SA YouTube channel. This is an opportunity for people who enjoy filming, interviewing, presenting, editing or developing creative video concepts. While we are exploring different forms of digital storytelling, podcasts are not part of the programme at this stage. Our current focus will be on building our video content and YouTube presence. The deliverables and timelines will be discussed individually depending on the proposed video series.
Graphic design team
We are looking to grow a dedicated graphic design team to help create quality programme, campaign and promotional assets that can be used by SCOUTS SA nationally. The deliverables would be project based.
This will help members, Groups, Districts, and Regions access more consistent, professional and engaging materials to promote Scouting in their communities.
How would it work?
The Content Creator Team will work alongside the National Marketing Chair, the National PR Manager, and a National Content Creator Coordinator who will help to manage the flow of impact stories and video content. The team will be on hand to assist and ensure that the stories being produced support SCOUTS SA’s strategic plan and national communication priorities.
Although the Content Creators would be sharing local impact stories, they would be part of a National team. If they are keen to create more content per month, then they can support their Regional Marketing Representative or Regional Commissioner.
Once a month we would meet as a National team to review deliverables, story ideas and national campaigns for the month ahead.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for volunteers who are over 18 years old, registered on SD, and who are enthusiastic about Scouting and would like to use their skills to help tell our story! You don’t have to be an expert in everything. We are building a team with different skills, interests and perspectives. All positions are voluntary.
Join the National Content Creator Team and help us tell the story, show the impact and grow Scouting.
