Scouting skills changed my school life

Today on #WorldYouthSkillsDay, let’s hear from Patrol Leader Didintle Makgetla from the 8th Majemantsho Scout Group on how Scouting empowers him with skills that help him in Scouting, but have also enabled him to do better at school!

SCOUTS SA: How has Scouting helped you develop your skills?

Didintle: As a Scout and a Patrol Leader, Scouting has taught me teamwork and how to communicate, but also time management, responsibility and adaptability.  Through Scouting I have also gained skills like leadership.

SCOUTS SA: We know that High School and being a youth leader in Scouting both require focus and time. How do you balance your Scouting responsibilities with your school work and share responsibilities with your Patrol members?

Didintle: I learned to make and use a study and Scouting timetable with time allocations. As a Patrol we assist one another and do things together.

SCOUTS SA: How has Scouting impacted your academic performance or attitude towards school and your future?

Didintle: Scouting has impacted my academics positively because it helped me boost my confidence, critical thinking, and creativity.  That changed my attitude towards school. Scouting also helped me improve my punctuality. It has also had a positive influence towards my future and career goals, as it is in line with the career that I’m interested in.
