From bottle top to maths’ tool

Under the leadership of Scouter Lindiwe Mokoena, 25 Scouts from the 1st Clarens Combined Scout Group in Kgubetswana in the Free State upcycled plastic bottle tops and created educational posters and tools as teaching aids as part of their participation in the ongoing Plastic Tide Turner’s Challenge.

“In the Plastic Tide Turner’s Regional training we learnt about the impact of plastic pollution. We saw the need to pick up the litter and reused and recycled the plastic bottle tops” explains Scouter Lindiwe.

“The Scouts recycled the plastic bottle tops and made geometric patterns and teaching aid posters to use in Mathematics Class. Different posters were made by the Scouts in different Patrols indicating the advantages of the PTTC, and the Scout promise, Scout motto and Scout sign were made as a form of decoration and learning.

This activity was very interesting for the learners and they were very exited to participate actively. We learned that anything is possible with anything. We can now make our classrooms look good and educational by using plastic bottle lids!”
