Today, as we recognise the International Day of Living Together in Peace, we are reminded of something deeply rooted in Scouting; our ability to bring people together.
Across South Africa, and indeed the world, Scouting creates spaces where young people from different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs can connect, learn, and grow side by side. In these spaces, diversity is not something we simply acknowledge, it’s something we actively celebrate. Through shared experiences, we build understanding. Through open conversations, we encourage dialogue. And through mutual respect, we strengthen unity. This is the essence of Scouting.
Our Safe from Harm culture reinforces this by ensuring that every young person and adult volunteer in our Movement feels safe, valued, and included. It is through this foundation that we are able to create environments where everyone belongs and where every voice matters.
Living together in peace is not just an ideal, it is something we practice every day as ‘Messengers of Peace’ in Scouting. Whether around a campfire, in a community project, or at a Friday meeting, we are constantly learning from one another and building connections that cross boundaries.
As Scouts, we have a responsibility to lead by example and to show that respect, inclusion, and dialogue can shape stronger communities and a more peaceful society.
Together, we continue to build a Scout Movement where diversity is our strength, dialogue is our tool, and peace is our shared goal. Safe from Harm simply means that everyone belongs.
