Recently, Scouts and adult volunteers from the Gauteng Scout Region’s DSD Programme joined the Gauteng Department of Social Development and civil society partners in a march advocating for children’s rights and working together to end violence against children.

The march highlighted the need for stronger action to protect children and young people from abuse, exploitation, and violence.

With drums beating and whistles sounding, young people from Westbury and Isophosethu Scout Groups made their voices heard, standing up for the right of every child to feel safe, protected, and respected.

“At SCOUTS South Africa, we believe every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and protected. Guided by the Scout Promise and Law, Scouting provides safe spaces where young people can learn, belong, grow in confidence, and develop into active citizens supported by trusted adults and positive role models. Human rights and child protection are closely aligned with the values of Scouting, particularly our duty to others,” says SCOUTS South Africa CEO Wayne du Plessis. “Through leadership development, mentorship, and community service, we empower young people with the confidence, skills, and support networks to thrive.”

Through partnerships with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, Scouting reaches young people in communities where access to developmental opportunities may otherwise be limited, helping to build resilience, leadership, belonging, and safer futures.

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can build communities where every young person is supported, empowered, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
