Tomorrow, Scouts across South Africa will join millions of people around the country in honouring Nelson Mandela’s legacy through service.
Over the past month, Scouting members have been putting their “Values into Action” by giving 67 minutes of service and making a positive difference in their communities.
As Mandela Day approaches, we invite every Scout to focus on one simple idea: kindness. Kindness can take many forms. It can be a warm meal shared with someone through a Jar of Hope. It can be helping a Scouting member or a member of your community. It can be cleaning a community space, supporting a local organisation or simply giving your time to make someone else’s day a little better.
Through Scouting, we learn that service is not something we do once a year. It is a way of living. Mandela Day simply reminds us of the difference we can make when we choose to act.
We thank all our Scouting members that have taken action or are planning to put their values into action to serve others. Remember, acts of kindness may seem small, but their power can be far-reaching.
Tomorrow, let’s honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy together through service, compassion and action.
