Anyone can nominate their Scout Leaders for an Award

Facebook NW Scout Region, Scouters Retreat 2025

This week we are challenging SCOUTS South Africa members to recognise the difference their volunteers are making and to celebrate their Adult Leaders!

One of the biggest myths about recognition in Scouting is that nominations can only be submitted by people in senior leadership positions. The truth is that any member registered on Scouts.Digital (SD) can recommend someone for an award. As long as they are not nominating themselves, and the person they are nominating is also registered on SD.

Perhaps you have seen a fellow Scouter consistently go above and beyond. Have you watched someone improve the experience of young people in their care? Have you personally grown through the support of an Adult Leader? Noticed how and Adult Leaders continues to serve year after year? How about that Adult volunteer who supports fellow volunteers, strengthens their Group or takes on challenges that others might have avoided.

If you have witnessed someone making a difference within the SA Scout Movement, you can start the process. You have the power to recognise that contribution.

A strong nomination should provide as much relevant information and evidence as possible. Letters of recommendation, CVs, newspaper articles and other supporting documents can all help demonstrate the contribution being recognised.

Speak to others who have witnessed the work. Gather the information. Complete the application and submit it to the appropriate Regional Awards Committee or Regional Commissioner.

You don’t need a title to recognise someone. You just need to have seen the difference they make.
