It is important to understand that Commendations and Service Awards are different types of recognition. Sometimes a Rover or Adult Leader does something exceptional. Something that goes beyond the normal expectations of their role or involvement. This is where Commendations can play an important role.
Here are the two types of Commendations:
Regional Commissioner’s Commendation:
A Regional Commissioner’s Commendation recognises a specific short-term intervention in response to a particular need. For example, this could involve exceptional assistance during a fire, flood or other significant situation affecting a Region or community.
The Regional Commissioner’s Commendation would normally not be awarded for work that falls within the normal scope of a member’s main portfolio, or where the contribution has already been recognised through another mechanism.
Chief Scout’s Commendation:
The Chief Scout’s Commendation recognises outstanding service rendered to the Movement, the public or a community where that service is of national or exceptional significance. It can recognise members, non-members, groups or external organisations. The common thread is recognising something that stands out.
So, when you see someone step up in extraordinary circumstances, take notice. They may deserve a Commendation.
